Following the success of Local People: Local Paths earlier this year, ‘Path Survey and Design Basics’ is the first of 3 training courses aimed at community path groups across Scotland.This first course will provide a ‘hands on’ basic introduction to path survey and design, and has been developed for anyone with an interest in designing paths in an urban or rural environment.This is an interactive training day, with practical sessions both indoor and out on the national path demonstration site. These will introduce:

  1. Path survey types, techniques and tools
  2. Principles of ‘fit for purpose’ path design
  3. An overview of path designer’s duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007
  4. A path designer’s perspective on surveying and designing accessible, fit for purpose paths
  5. An opportunity to survey an existing path and design a new one
  6. An opportunity to view accessibility improvements, drainage, surfaces, gates and bridges.
